Biography

Deepa Goonetilleke of Sri Lankan - Australian heritage is a versatile hornist, performing a range of repertoire from classical to contemporary music on both modern and natural horn. 

As a chamber musician, she has been a guest at festivals such as Ultraschall Festival (Berlin), Venice Biennale, Rainy Days Festival (Luxembourg), Festival de Musique de Strasbourg, Acht Brücken (Cologne), Enescu Festival (Bucharest) and Warsaw Autumn Festival.  She has worked regularly with Ensemble Modern, MusikFabrik, Ensemble Linea and Ensemble Proton Bern and has performed with Basel Sinfonietta, Ensemble Ascolta, the Hessischen Rundfunk Big Band, Würzburg Philharmonic, Chineke! Orchestra, the Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz and Norrlands Operan Orkester in Sweden. 

From 2014 - 2018, Deepa was a member of the Lucerne Festival Young Ensemble which created the children’s program Heroica which toured through Europe in concert houses such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Boulez Saal and the Elb Philharmonie.  In 2014, Heroica won the Junge Ohren Preis in the category - Best Practice (Concert). 

In 2022, Deepa was the Horn Tutor at the Lucerne Festival Academy and will join the Academy again this summer. She has also taught horn, trumpet and piano in Frankfurt for over ten years. She has been a tutor at diverse education programs with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Musikfabrik and Klangspuren Schwaz.
