Biography

Deepa Goonetilleke is a versatile hornist whose work spans classical and contemporary repertoire on both modern and natural horn.

As a chamber musician, she has appeared at major international festivals including Eclat Festival (Stuttgart), Wien Modern, Ultraschall Festival (Berlin), the Venice Biennale, Rainy Days Festival (Luxembourg), Festival de Musique de Strasbourg, Acht Brücken (Cologne), the Enescu Festival (Bucharest), and the Warsaw Autumn Festival. She works regularly with Ensemble Modern, MusikFabrik, Ensemble Linea, and Ensemble Proton Bern, and has performed with ensembles and orchestras such as Elision Ensemble, Ensemble Resonanz, Basel Sinfonietta, Ensemble Ascolta, the Hessischer Rundfunk Big Band, Würzburg Philharmonic, Chineke! Orchestra, Rheinische Philharmonie Koblenz and Norrlands Operan Orkester (Sweden).

Deepa is a founding member of Trio Radial, for whom she has commissioned over thirty new works for their distinctive instrumentation of horn, clarinet, and cello.

From 2014 to 2018, she was a member of the Lucerne Festival Young Ensemble, which created the children’s concert programme Heroica. The project toured widely across Europe, appearing at venues including the Vienna Konzerthaus, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Boulez Saal, and the Elbphilharmonie. In 2014, Heroica received the Junge Ohren Preis for Best Practice (Concert).

In 2022 and 2023, Deepa was a guest leader at the Lucerne Festival Academy. From 2024 to 2025, she participated in the Lucerne Festival Academy Contemporary Leaders Program, contributing to the curation of Forward Festival 2025, and she currently serves as an Academy Coach.

Alongside her performing career, Deepa has over ten years of teaching experience, having taught horn, trumpet, and piano in Frankfurt and Dresden. She has also been a tutor with educational programmes run by Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Musikfabrik, and Klangspuren Schwaz.
